Maldives Seaplane Guidelines
If your selected resort is accessible by Maldives seaplane transfer, please review the following important information before booking your holiday with Alim Travels.
- Seaplanes are amphibious aircraft that take off from and land on water, offering spectacular aerial views of the Maldives’ islands and lagoons.
- Scheduled seaplane services operate only during daylight hours, typically between 6:00 AM and 3:30 PM, in accordance with Maldives Civil Aviation regulations.
- Passengers arriving on international flights after approximately 3:00 PM may be required to stay overnight in Malé, Hulhumalé, or an airport hotel before taking the next available seaplane the following day.
- Standard seaplanes do not have onboard toilets, so passengers should use the facilities available at the seaplane terminal before departure.
- Business Class seating is not available on scheduled seaplane services. However, private luxury seaplane charters can be arranged upon request.
- Seaplane transfers are not included free of charge unless specifically stated in your package. If a resort advertises a “Free Seaplane Transfer,” the transfer cost is generally incorporated into the overall package or room rate.
- Standard baggage allowance is 25 kg per passenger (combined checked and hand baggage). Excess baggage may be accepted subject to space availability and additional charges imposed by the airline.
- Waiting times at the seaplane terminal can range from 1 to 4 hours, depending on international flight arrivals, weather conditions, and operational schedules.
- Check-in usually closes around one hour before departure, although timings may vary depending on airline operations and connecting international flights.
- Scheduled seaplanes have approximately 15 passenger seats, with limited window seats available.
- Air conditioning is not available onboard. The aircraft are fitted with ventilation fans, and the cabin may feel warm before takeoff.
- Some resorts provide exclusive airport lounges for their guests, while others use the public waiting area at the seaplane terminal.
- The seaplane terminal offers passenger facilities including seating areas, restrooms, a café, a convenience shop, and a designated smoking area.
- Complimentary transfers between Velana International Airport and the seaplane terminal are provided by shuttle bus or vehicle arranged by the seaplane operator or resort.
- Private seaplane charters, scenic flights, and aerial photography excursions can be arranged through Alim Travels upon request for guests seeking a premium travel experience.
